Coastal interiors borrow their palette from the shoreline rather than from nautical decor — sand, driftwood, sea glass and bleached linen instead of anchors and rope. The defining move is light: pale surfaces bounce daylight around, and window treatments stay sheer so the view does the decorating. Materials look weathered on purpose, as if salt air has already softened them.

Applied to the retail store, this style works best when the layout fundamentals are right first. A shop interior is a route, not a room: customers enter, decelerate, and turn — usually right. Design the first three metres as a decompression zone with nothing to sell, then place the highest-margin display where the eye lands after that turn. Lighting does the persuading; keep general light low and let accent light pick out the merchandise.
