What is AI rendering?

Generating a photorealistic architectural image with an AI model instead of a traditional render engine. Where V-Ray or Lumion compute light physics on a full 3D model (minutes to hours), AI rendering works from a photo, sketch or viewport capture and returns a finished visual in seconds.

AI rendering is the process of producing a photorealistic architectural image with a trained image model rather than a physically based render engine. You supply an input, such as a site photo, a hand sketch, a CAD export or a screenshot of a 3D model, plus a short description of materials and mood. The model returns a finished image, usually within a minute.

Why it matters

Traditional engines such as V-Ray, Corona or Lumion simulate light bouncing through a fully built 3D scene. That gives exact control but requires a detailed model, material setup, lighting and long render times. AI rendering skips most of that setup. It is most valuable early in a project, when a design is still changing and a client wants to see mood, materials and atmosphere today rather than next week. It also lowers the skill barrier: a rough massing model or a pencil sketch is enough to start.

Example

An architect exports a plain grey viewport from SketchUp, uploads it, and asks for "white render, dark timber cladding, soft overcast daylight". Around 30 seconds later there is a presentable exterior image to discuss with the client. Three material variations can be produced in the time a classic engine would spend loading the scene.

Common mistake

Treating AI output as a construction document. An AI render is a visual proposal. Dimensions, structure and code compliance still come from the drawings and the model. Another frequent mistake is a vague prompt on a generic image generator, which invents a different building instead of rendering your design; geometry-aware tools exist to avoid that.

Practical tips

Start with the cleanest input you have: a sharp photo or an uncluttered viewport gives better results than a cropped, dark one. Describe materials and light in one short sentence, generate a few variations, and keep the one closest to the design. Then refine details with targeted edits instead of rerunning everything, and always compare the final image against your drawings before it leaves the studio.

In Archome AI

Archome AI is built around this workflow. Start with Exterior AI for buildings, or the interior and sketch tools for other inputs. Every new account gets 3 free renders with no card required, and the Lite plan is $29/mo for 100 Fast renders.
