What is Geometry preservation?
The key difference between an architectural AI tool and a general image generator: walls, proportions, openings and camera angle of the input design are kept intact, so the output is a proposal for the actual project rather than an invented building.
Updated 4 November 2026
Geometry preservation means the structure of the input design survives the AI step. Wall positions, window and door openings, roof shape, proportions and the camera angle in the output match the input. Only surface qualities such as material, light, colour and context change.
Why it matters
A general-purpose image generator treats your upload as loose inspiration and may redraw the building. That can look impressive, but it is useless for client work because the picture no longer shows the project you designed. Architects need a render they can stand behind: if the client approves the image, the image should describe the building on the drawings.
Example
Take a viewport screenshot of a three-storey block with a recessed entrance. A geometry-preserving render keeps the recess, the three storeys and the window grid exactly where they were and dresses them in brick and glass. A non-preserving tool might add a fourth floor or move the entrance.
Common mistake
Assuming preservation is perfect. It is strong but not a CAD guarantee: always compare the result against the input before presenting it, especially around small details such as mullions, railings and roof edges. If something drifted, rerun it or use inpainting to fix just that area.
Practical tips
To get the most from it, give the tool a clear, well-lit input where edges are easy to read. Overlay the render on the original in an image editor, or flip between the two, to spot any drift. Keep prompts about finish, light and mood, and avoid asking for new structural elements, because requests that contradict the input are where preservation is most likely to break down.
In Archome AI
Archome AI is designed around this principle, which is why tools such as Sketch to Render and the exterior and interior tools start from your image instead of from nothing.
