What img to 3D reconstruction actually produces

The output is a textured mesh in GLB form: geometry plus a baked colour texture, wrapped in a single file that opens almost anywhere. It is a real 3D asset — you can orbit it, light it, place it in a scene and export it onward — not a depth-mapped image or a parallax trick.

It is also a reconstruction, not a measurement. The AI infers the volume of the subject from one view and invents the faces it cannot see, guided by everything it has learned about how objects tend to be shaped. The visible side is usually close; the hidden side is plausible. For visualisation and web assets that distinction rarely matters, and for anything dimensional it matters completely.

The topology is organic and dense rather than the clean quad flow a modeller would build deliberately. That is characteristic of the method rather than a defect. Run a decimate or remesh pass in Blender before dropping the asset into a real-time scene; for a still render or a web viewer, leave it alone.

If what you actually want is a rendered picture rather than a mesh, this is the wrong tool. Sketch to render and exterior AI produce images; image to 3D produces geometry. Plenty of people run both — the mesh for the asset, the render for the presentation.

Photo to 3D model: choosing the one image that works

One subject, clearly separated from its background, is most of the recipe. A chair photographed on a plain floor converts well; the same chair inside a picture of a furnished room converts badly, because the model cannot tell where the subject ends and the sofa behind it begins.

A three-quarter angle beats a straight-on shot every time. Seeing two faces of the object gives the reconstruction depth information it can actually use, while a flat frontal view leaves it guessing about the entire depth axis — lumpy results usually trace straight back to that.

Even, diffuse light. Hard shadows get baked into the texture and read as dark geometry later; blown highlights come back as flat white patches with no detail in them. If you are photographing the object yourself, an overcast window beats a lamp.

Renders convert as well as photographs, which is worth knowing: a still you generated in interior AI or Imagine can go straight through to a mesh. So can product shots, furniture catalogue images and facade photos.

Multiple images to a 3D model: what is supported and what is not

This is single-image reconstruction, and multi-image input is not supported. Uploading a second angle will not refine the mesh, because the method never triangulates between views — it reads one picture and imagines a volume from it. Anyone promising you otherwise on this page would be selling you something the tool does not do.

Combining many photographs into one measured model is photogrammetry, and it is a genuinely different technique: dozens of overlapping shots of a physical object, heavy processing, and accuracy that comes precisely from that overlap. If you need dimensional truth from a real object, that is the route, and this tool is not a substitute for it.

In practice the workaround is selection rather than accumulation. Look through the angles you have, pick the single frame that reveals the most of the subject — usually the three-quarter view — and convert that one. A better chosen image beats more images here, every time.

From GLB to your pipeline: SketchUp, Blender, Unreal and the web

GLB is the point of the format choice: one self-contained file with geometry and textures inside it, natively supported by Blender, Unreal, Godot, Three.js, model-viewer and the 3D previews built into most operating systems and messaging apps. There is nothing to unpack and no missing texture paths.

Current SketchUp versions import GLB directly; if yours is old enough that it does not, bring the file into Blender and export a format it does read. Once the mesh is in SketchUp, the free SketchUp plugin will render the scene around it without you leaving the model.

For web use the file usually wants decimating first, because a raw reconstruction is heavier than a page should carry. For a property listing or a portfolio, an embedded GLB somebody can orbit is a different experience from a carousel of photographs — and a short video clip or a virtually staged still covers the audience that will never touch a 3D viewer.

For plans specifically, a mesh is often not what people actually want. A 2D floor plan will convert to geometry here, but a rendered 3D view of the same plan usually communicates better — the floor plan tool is built for exactly that, and many users run the same drawing through both.

Is there a free 2D to 3D converter? What a conversion costs

Straight answer: 3D conversion is not covered by the free tier. One conversion costs 300 credits and the free plan renews 100 free credits to start, so mesh generation sits on the paid side. How accurate is the model?+

It reconstructs a plausible 3D form from a single view, which is remarkable but not a measurement. For visualisation, web assets and concept work it is excellent; for construction-accurate geometry, model it properly.

Can I get a 3D render from a 2D image, rather than a mesh?+

Is the 3D model to scale?+

No. A single photograph carries no reference for real-world size, so the GLB arrives at an arbitrary scale and you set it in your own software — usually by scaling one known edge to its real dimension. If measured accuracy is the actual requirement, photogrammetry or a laser scan is the right tool, not this one.

How long does a conversion take?+

Can I open the GLB in SketchUp or Blender?+

Can I 3D print the result?+

Sometimes, but treat it as a decorative print rather than a functional part. The mesh is not built to be watertight, wall thickness is not controlled and the hidden side is inferred, so expect to run a repair and decimation pass in Blender or your slicer first — and do not print anything that has to fit something else.

Can I edit or clean up the mesh afterwards?+
