How to Furnish an Empty Room with AI (Before You Buy Anything)
5 min read

Furniture is expensive and hard to return. Yet most people buy a sofa based on a showroom photo and a tape measure, then discover it swallows the room. AI fixes the guessing: photograph the empty room, and see it furnished — realistically, in your actual space — in about 30 seconds.
The 3-minute process
- Photograph the empty room. Stand in a corner, hold the phone level, get walls, floor and windows in frame.
- Upload it to Interior AI.
- Describe how you want to live in it — not just a style label: "calm reading corner, warm oak, linen sofa, plants, soft evening light".
- Generate several directions and compare them side by side.
Try three directions, not one
The point isn't to get one pretty picture — it's to decide. Run the same room in three styles (warm minimal / Japandi / classic) and you'll immediately know which one feels like home. That's a decision you can't make from a Pinterest board, because Pinterest isn't your room.
Then narrow down piece by piece
Once the direction is set, stop redesigning and start comparing single choices:
- Material Swap — same room, three different floors. Which one?
- Inpainting — change only the sofa, keep everything else identical.
This is how designers actually work: fix the big move, then test one variable at a time.
Practical tips
- Shoot in daylight. Dark photos make muddy renders.
- Name the mood, not just the furniture. "Cosy, warm, lived-in" tells the AI more than "sofa and table".
- Keep the camera level. Tilt the phone and the room comes out tilted.
- Show it to whoever you live with before buying. Renders end arguments faster than adjectives.
What it won't do
The AI shows what the room could look like — it doesn't measure your sofa. Use it to choose the direction and the mood, then check real dimensions before you order. It saves you from buying the wrong thing; it doesn't replace a tape measure.
Upload your empty room and see it furnished three ways in the next five minutes — free to try.
