Hover Alternative — When You Need Visuals, Not Measurements

6 min read

Hover is a measurement company. Photos in, measured 3D model and takeoff quantities out — and for production and ordering, that genuinely earns its price. But a chunk of "hover alternative" searches come from contractors who realised the estimate they keep losing is not missing measurements. It is missing the picture that makes the homeowner say yes.

Which problem do you actually have?

  • Ordering the wrong quantities? Measurement problem. Stay in the measurement aisle — Hover-class tools, or a tape and a ladder. We do not measure houses, and this page will not pretend otherwise.
  • Homeowner "thinking about it" after every estimate? Selling problem. The fix is showing them their own house with the new siding, roof or windows already on it — while you are still in the driveway.

The visual half, done with AI

Photograph the elevation at the walkthrough. Describe the quoted direction — "board-and-batten in sage, black frames, charcoal architectural shingles". Archome's exterior tool returns the render in about 30 seconds with geometry locked: real roofline, real openings, real proportions. Material Swap handles the one-surface debates, and a second colourway costs another 30 seconds. The estimate email that contains the after-picture of the customer's own house is the one that gets answered.

Costs, honestly compared

Measurement platforms price per scan, per seat or per year — check current terms on their sites. The visual tool is a normal subscription: $29/month covers roughly 100 standard renders, and a $15 one-time pack trials it on a real estimate this week. Many exterior companies rationally run both: measurement for won jobs, visuals in every estimator's pocket.

Honest limits

No takeoffs, no quantities, no aerial measurements — ever. Product renders show a direction, not a manufacturer SKU; colour gets confirmed on a physical sample as it already does. Heavy tree cover in front of a facade limits what any photo-based tool can do — shoot from the angle the buyer judges from.

The full crew workflow is on the siding, roofing & window contractors page, and the same logic for interior remodels on the remodelers page.
